Barry LaVerne Bennington, 61, of Searsboro, died on Friday, January 10, 2025 in the comfort of his home.

A Sharing of Memories will be from 4 pm – 5 pm, Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Eagles Club, followed by a gathering for friends and family. Memorials may be directed to the family and sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Barry was born on April 13, 1963, the proud son of Victor and JoAnn Bennington in Grinnell. He graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School. He worked in a variety of trades such as welding, roofing, and carpentry, just to name a few. Barry was truly a jack of all trades, he was able to fix anything. When Barry was not fixing things, you would find him outside. Barry loved to hunt and fish anytime he had the chance. He was always putting others first and his door was always open. There was never a dull moment, anytime you were around Barry, entertainment was sure to follow. Barry always had a story to tell and more memories to make. Work hard-play hard was his motto. Above all else, his family meant everything to him. Barry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Barry would beam anytime any of them would stop by.

His memory will live on through his children, Levi (Shannon) Bennington of Grinnell, Lucas (Brittney) Bennington of Las Vegas, and Alexa Yoakum of Altoona; his grandchildren, Cameron Bennington, Bently Watkins and Blair Bennington; and his siblings, Duane (Vicki) Hannah of Marshalltown, Tom (Denise) Peck of LeGrand, Victor Bennington of Searsboro; and his beloved dog, Joe.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kaitlin Watkins; sister, Donna James and brother, Kenny Bennington.
