Jerry Dean Renbarger, 87, of Grinnell, IA died on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at his home after a short illness.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 5 – 7pm, Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Cox-Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 30, 2023, at Elmwood Cemetery near LaMoille, Iowa.  Jerry will be interred next to his grandparents, parents, and sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS) and mailed in care of the Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Jerry was born on May 9, 1936, to Darwin and Vesta Renbarger in Grinnell, IA.  After graduating Grinnell High School in 1954, he joined the US Air Force.  Following eight years in the service, Jerry worked for AVCO and farmed.  He worked as a telephone engineer at General Telephone Electronics (GTE) in Grinnell from 1969 until his retirement in 1999.  Jerry lived on the family farm south of Grinnell until he moved to the city of Grinnell in 1979.

On August 1, 1981, Jerry married Susan Deppe who provided loving care until his passing.  Jerry enjoyed spending time at the casino, Friday morning coffee with GTE friends, watching football, tinkering on the farm, and had a love for computer technology.  He also enjoyed his furry companions, Ashley and Roxie.

Jerry is survived by Susan Deppe, of Grinnell, IA; his children, Mike (Jean) Renbarger of Chamberlain, South Dakota and Kathryn (Troy) Andrews of Coralville, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Karen Renbarger; stepchildren, Robin (Bill) McGinnis of Grinnell and Shannon Deppe of Grinnell; and six grandchildren; one step grandchild; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Darwin and Vesta Renbarger; son, Steve Renbarger and sister, Betty Renbarger.
