Lois was born on June 23, 1936, the daughter of Virgil Andrew and Mary Cecilia (Richmond) Johnson in Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell Senior High and started working at Maytag. She was the first woman to repair the product at the end of the assembly. She was also the UAW Leader. Lois retired in 1992 after 25 years of service. Following her retirement, she cleaned houses for several people. She was one that could never sit still.
Lois enjoyed several things throughout her life. In her younger years, all the neighbors would get together and play cards while their children were playing. She also had bowling league on Friday nights. Lois loved mushroom hunting and kept the location secret. Lois was part of a group that was nicknamed the "Golden Girls". Together, they had coffee every day at 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Golden Girls went on several trips throughout the years. Lois was a die-hard Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed it all and if a game was on, she would always make sure she was watching. The Hawks, Steelers and Bears were her teams, and she always rooted them on.
She was a faithful and humble servant to her Lord. Lois had her "pew" and was there almost every Saturday. Her faith kept her strong, until her last breath. Lois loved her sons, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was their rock. Life will be different, but she'll be cheering her family on in spirit.
Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Frank (Carol) Jones of Iowa City and Fred Jones of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Nicole Moore of Coralville, Chelsy Jones (Matt Steinberger) of Poughkeepsie, New York, Chelsie (Matt) Vonderhaar of Carpinteria, California, and Elijah (Allison) Jones of Chicago, Illinois; great grandchildren, Zariah Moore and Mila Vonderhaar; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Gale, Gerald, Deloris, Roberta, Barbara, Carol, Maxine and an infant sister.
