Mary Cook, 81, of Grinnell, died Monday, April 6, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family, under the care of UnityPoint Hospice.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service. A Sharing of Memories will start at 4 pm. A memorial fund will be established.

Mary was born on June 29, 1944, to Glen and Neta (Beason) Stewart in Grinnell. She graduated from Lynnville High School and went on to trade school. Mary worked as a lab technician and radiology technician at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. She worked at the Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Mary volunteered at Second Mile for several years.

On May 16, 1964, Mary married Larry Cook in Leon, Iowa. She enjoyed sewing, reading, quilting and candle making. Mary was a collector of everything. She absolutely adored and loved her grandchildren.

Mary will be missed by her family; children, Alan (Patty) Cook, Scott (Stacy) Cook and Brandie Sebeniecher, all of Grinnell; grandchildren, Brian (Karen) Cook, Jessica Cook, Jake (Jamie) Dunsbergen, Dylan Cook, Hope (Ethan) Kirby and Faith (Evan) Jones; one great granddaughter, Oaklee Dunsbergen; and her cat, Cookie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; brother, Richard; and her dog, Sara.
