Obituary

Nadine A. Allen, 84, of Grinnell, Iowa, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Monday, May 22, 2023, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Cox-Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell at 2pm, Sunday, June 25th, 2023.  Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. The family invites you for a time of memories and refreshments in the reception hall.

Nadine was born on March 9, 1939, daughter of Marshall and Clarice (Guyer) Pierce, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Her family moved to Grinnell, and she graduated from Grinnell Senior High School with the class of 1957. On September 15, 1957, she married Gerald (Jerry) Allen, at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. Nadine and Jerry were married for 60 years and blessed with three children, Barbara, Ron, and Jerome.

While her children were young, she was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family.  Once the children were in school, she worked throughout the community at Bang's Apparel, Miracle Recreation, and Blakley House (DeLongs).  She enjoyed gardening, cooking for the family, as well as participating on volleyball and bowling teams.  An avid sports fan, she loved watching football and basketball, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs.  She was an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed handiwork including knitting, crocheting, and quilting.  Nadine loved the time she would spend with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Unwavering in her faith, Nadine always had an optimistic attitude.  She planted good seeds in others, and she will be missed.

Nadine is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Daniels of Kirksville, Missouri; Ron (Marla Rosenblum) Allen of Iowa City; Jerome Allen of Newton; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Paul of Des Moines, and Carol Crawford of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry on December 15, 2017, and five siblings.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
