Sharon Kay Mathis, 73, of Grinnell, died December 22, 2023, at Newton Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2024 , at Cox Smith Funeral Home, with burial in Westfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Mathis family and sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Sharon was born on June 8, 1950, in Hamburg, Iowa, the daughter of Opal Gardner. She graduated from Farragut High School with the class of 1968. On January 11, 1970, Sharon married her high school sweetheart, Steven Mathis. In late 1980, the couple moved to Grinnell. Sharon continued her education at AIB in Des Moines and went on to be a CPA. She worked at Mayflower Community Homes as property manager for over 27 years. Sharon retired in 2014. She loved to sing karaoke and cherished all the time she had with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sharon will be truly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Doug (Kelly) Mathis of Phoenix, Arizona and Jake (Amber) Mathis of Grinnell; her grandchildren, Tyler (Amber) Mathis, Lane Mathis, Wyatt Mathis, Ayva Mathis, Emma Mathis, Haley Mathis, Isaiah Williams, Brandon Hall and Kayla Bonilla; ten great grandchildren; sister, Karen (Ray) Vaughn of Ave Maria, Florida; and her brother, Ed (Diane) Foster of Riverton, Iowa

She was preceded in death by her parents, Opal and August Foster; and her husband, Steven on February 3, 2019.
