Deppe

Grinnell
Susan E. Deppe, 78, of Grinnell, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at UnityPoint-Grinnell Regional Hospital in Grinnell.
A graveside service will be on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Rock Creek Cemetery, rural Kellogg, Iowa. Please meet at Cox-Smith Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Monday and we will proceed to the cemetery from there. A memorial fund will be established.
Susan was born September 21, 1946, to Clarence William "Bill" and Hazel Lena (Slagle) Peters at St. Francis Hospital in Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School. On May 4, 1968, she married Donald Ray Deppe and they had two children, Robin and Shannon. On August 1, 1981, Susan married Jerry Renbarger and cared for him until his passing.
She was always busy. Many know Susan from the Grinnell Newburg Schools; she was one of the cooks for over 21 years. When her children were young, she worked for DeKalb – sorting corn and using that money to buy Christmas gifts for her children. Susan also enjoyed Avon and was an Avon Representative. She never missed an episode of the Young and the Restless and The Price Is Right. Susan had an obsession of pigs and was a collector of anything having to do with pigs; that started when Don and Susan raised them on their farm. There are endless stories of going to the casino, baking and cooking, and the love she shared with her family. Susan always put everyone first and the talks she shared with her son and daughter were filled with love. She was proud of her family.
Susan will be remembered by her daughter, Robin (Bill) McGinnis of Grinnell; son, Shannon Deppe of Grinnell; grandson, Kendall (Tuesday Crawford) McGinnis of Grinnell; her sister, Sally Goodrich of Grinnell; nieces, Stephanie Goodrich of Newton, and her children; Seth Torbensen of Grinnell and Acacia Torbensen and her children, Uriah and Gracie of Brooklyn; and Kelena (Breck) Bonnell and their children, Liam and Maddon of Bondurant; and nephew, Alan Goodrich of Grinnell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald Deppe in 1980; second husband, Jerry Renbarger in 2023 and her brother, William "Bill" Peters.
