Timothy Conn, 81, of Grinnell, died Saturday, June 8, 2024, at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Labre Indian School and sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Tim was born on January 6, 1943, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Irvin and Shirley (Wilcox) Conn. He graduated from Newton High School. Tim attended University of Iowa, transferring to the University of Denver in the music department. He was then off to New York City to study drama. During the 60's he traveled as a backup singer for Harry Belafonte and participated in many civil rights demonstrations. He also participated in the USO and traveled worldwide singing with them.

Tim returned to Iowa to be closer to his family. He worked at Donaldson's for a period, before becoming a Nursing Technician and Grinnell Regional Medical Center from 1983 to 1998. He was also a Patient Care Technician at Mayflower Community Homes and loved his patients. It was there that he met Patricia Robbins and they married on October 10, 1995.

There are so many things that Tim enjoyed. He had a passion for music and art; one of those was making stained glass. Tim was a free spirit and traveled to New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. Tim was an animal person and enjoyed the company of his favorite cat, Ivy. He loved his grandchildren and doted on them every chance he could.

Those that will cherish his memory are his wife, Pat of Grinnell; children, Patrick (Marcia) Avalos of Cedar Rapids and Sam (Quintin) Dewey of Grinnell; five grandchildren, Grace, Elianah, Emma, Claire and Belle; brother, Gary (Sally) Conn of Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite cat, Ivy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Alicia Wuebben.
