Sarah was born in West Des Moines, and after a few years, her family moved to Texas. She was raised in Texas until she was 13, when her family moved back to Iowa. A graduate of Grinnell Senior High School with the class of 1994 and Marshalltown Community College with an Associate’s. Sarah worked her way through college as a CNA at St. Francis Manor and later Mayflower Community Homes. Sarah attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois, graduating in 1998, while working at a funeral home in Chicago. She served her internship with Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg and then took a position as a licensed funeral director at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, working there for 18 years. In 2019, Chad and Sarah established Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, going out on her own.
Chad was born in Knoxville, Iowa, and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1991. He attended DMACC. Chad worked for Quik-Trip, opening and managing several stores in Iowa and Nebraska. He moved his family back to Knoxville to be closer to family.
On June 13, 2018, she married Chad Smith in Lynnville. Between them, they have seven children: Zach, Lexi, Curtis, Connor, Kinnedy, Cael, and Remy. Chad and Sarah are also proud grandparents to Weslynn and Silas. The couple resides in Grinnell.
